Square Enix has released an emergency update for Final Fantasy XIV on the Switch 2, targeting significant issues that have plagued the hybrid console version of the game. The patch aims to resolve lengthy loading times and several glitches impacting player experience, particularly within dungeons and during combat.

Previously, players on the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy XIV reported excessively long load times, a problem that the recent emergency maintenance appears to have corrected. Reports from players indicate a substantial reduction in loading durations following the update. The maintenance also addressed a critical bug that could cause players' screens to turn permanently black during battle phase transitions in dungeons or when attempting to revive a fallen ally.

Beyond the performance enhancements, the update also tackles issues specifically related to touch controls. For players utilizing touch input, the game would incorrectly mark them as inactive within dungeons, leading to their removal. Additionally, targeting problems were experienced in a Gold Saucer mini-game. Both of these touch control-specific bugs have now been fixed. However, the patch does not appear to address lag issues that can occur when using mouse controls for FFXIV on the Switch 2.

While the focus of this hotfix was largely on the Switch 2 version, Square Enix also included fixes for several other problems not exclusive to the console. Full details of all changes can be found in the official patch notes.
