Final Fantasy XIV has received its latest update with Patch 7.55, a significant release that marks the conclusion of several long-running questlines and introduces adjustments to challenging in-game content as the MMORPG approaches its next major expansion, Dawntrail.
The patch brings the final tier of Dawntrail's Phantom Weapons relic questline to a close. Players who complete the quest will unlock the ultimate form of these weapons. Additionally, Square Enix has reduced the enhancement cost for any subsequent Phantom Weapons obtained after the first, making it more accessible for players to acquire multiple upgraded weapons. The journey to these final weapon forms involves exploring the new North Horn area within the Occult Crescent field operation. Patch 7.55 also introduces Blue and Black Mages as new phantom jobs within the Occult Crescent's complex gameplay systems.
Fans of the often humorous Hildibrand quests will find the conclusion to the Inconceivably Further Hildibrand Adventures in this patch. While the current storyline ends, the developers suggest that Hildibrand is likely to return in future updates. The allied society quests also reach their conclusion with Patch 7.55.
For those who have been tackling the notoriously difficult Dancing Mad (Ultimate) raid, the patch includes a minor update aimed at improving clarity. The visibility of Celestriad, an ability used by Kefka in the raid's fifth and final phase, has been enhanced by enlarging the elemental icons associated with the mechanic. This follows a recent hotfix that addressed an issue with panels in the raid.
Beyond the story and raid updates, Patch 7.55 introduces a variety of new cosmetic items. Players can look forward to a new hairstyle, mounts, emotes, and several new housing furnishings. A notable addition is a new chocobo barding outfit, designed to give the player's companion a picnic-ready appearance complete with a bonnet.
Final Fantasy XIV's next scheduled update, Patch 7.56, is slated for September and will begin to lay the groundwork for the upcoming Dawntrail expansion, titled 'Evercold'.
