Final Fantasy XIV has issued emergency maintenance to address a critical bug introduced with its latest job, the Beastmaster. The issue, discovered on September 8, the same day the job launched, had the potential to cause entire game servers to crash.

The bug occurred when a player's character would disconnect from the server at the precise moment their pet used a weapon skill that restored the player's health. This specific sequence of events could trigger a server-wide crash. While the circumstances required for the bug to manifest were niche, it was reportedly easy to replicate by manually disconnecting an Ethernet cable, raising concerns about its potential for widespread disruption.

The Beastmaster, along with the Blue Mage, is classified as a "limited job" in Final Fantasy XIV. These jobs are not intended for use in the main story quest or endgame dungeons, offering players unconventional abilities for side content and experimentation. With the new job drawing significant player attention, the potential for this bug to escalate into a major catastrophe was a serious concern for Square Enix.

This is not the first instance of Square Enix addressing peculiar bugs in the popular MMORPG. Last year, the game was noted for a bug where players could be disconnected if they listed an auction house item in a specific zone with an asking price between 44,442 and 49,087 gil. Such highly specific bugs highlight the complex and sometimes unusual challenges in maintaining a large-scale online game.
