Square Enix's massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Final Fantasy XIV, is poised to become the largest title released on the Nintendo Switch 2 upon its launch on August 4. The game's install size has been revealed as 117.2GB, a figure that will consume almost half of the console's 256GB internal storage.
This considerable download size is roughly double that of Final Fantasy XIV on the PlayStation 5, which benefits from advanced file compression. The PC version's memory footprint is similar to the Switch 2's upcoming size. The substantial data is attributed to the MMORPG's extensive content, accumulated over years of updates and expansions.
The large install size does encompass all five of the game's previous expansions: Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and Dawntrail. However, players will need to account for future content, as a sixth expansion, Evercold, is already slated for release next January, which will likely increase storage requirements further.
Notably, Square Enix holds previous records for the largest games on Nintendo Switch 2. Prior to Final Fantasy XIV's announcement, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth held the record for a single game at 91.8GB, and the Kingdom Hearts Collection bundle weighed in at 131GB for a trio of titles.
Final Fantasy XIV's Switch 2 launch date was confirmed by game director Naoki Yoshida at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2026 in Berlin. The initial month of gameplay will be offered without a subscription fee to allow for server stabilization. Following this introductory period, players will be required to purchase a subscription to continue playing, as is standard for the game.
