Nintendo has revealed new details for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, set to launch on September 17 for the Switch 2. A recent deep-dive broadcast showcased the game's blend of turn-based strategy and character customization, alongside the introduction of a surprising new weapon class.

While not explicitly called guns, these new weapons are described as "gauntlets that look like firearms" and possess significant firepower. Footage from the broadcast demonstrated one of these gauntlets firing lightning-empowered rounds, hinting at a new dimension to combat. This marks a notable departure from the series' established focus on medieval weaponry and magic.

The core gameplay loop retains the familiar Fire Emblem system of weapon class effectiveness, where different weapon types hold advantages and disadvantages against specific enemy classes. Archers continue to be a strong counter to flying units, axe-wielding characters offer brute force, and mages function as fragile but high-damage dealers. This established balance is preserved in Fortune's Weave.

Beyond combat, the game will feature a narrative centered on multiple protagonists, allowing players to switch between characters at any point. The story's progression also takes an unexpected turn, with the main narrative unfolding several years after an initial tournament concludes, suggesting a deeper, post-competition plotline.
