Nintendo has unveiled a wealth of new information regarding Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, its next major entry in the beloved RPG franchise, set to launch on September 17. The upcoming title for the Switch 2 appears to build upon the successful formula of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, incorporating elements like Heroes' Relics and Crests. The game is set in the Dagda Empire in 1449, with much of the initial action taking place in the capital city of Dagison and its Roman-style amphitheater, the site of the Heroic Games.
Players will initially choose one of four distinct heroes, each with their own narrative and allies. Cai is a farm boy seeking his father's freedom, Dietrich a seafarer looking for glory, Theodora aiming to restore peace to her homeland, and Leda pursuing her father's murderer. Each character offers a unique storyline and path through the early game.
Beyond the arena battles, Fortune's Weave will offer a variety of activities within Dagison. Players can train fighters weekly to gain levels, observe opponents to gather intel, and enhance weapons in the shopping arcade. A temple provides stat buffs through blessings, while Certification Exams allow characters to acquire new classes. Completing townsfolk quests yields rewards, and powerful warriors can be recruited through gifts or shared meals. Inns serve as rest stops where players can engage in conversations with support characters, with a bathhouse scene also being a feature. A unique mechanic, the Pale Raven's Perch, allows players to switch between the four heroes, enabling parallel progression through their stories.
Exploration extends beyond the city via a world map, featuring overworld skirmishes and dungeon crawling. Notably, dungeon exploration utilizes a different turn-based combat system than the series' traditional grid-based battles. These encounters allow for combo attacks with support allies, and dungeons yield materials and items. Time will advance during exploration, eventually requiring a return to the arena.
After a significant time jump to 1454, the game reveals its main protagonist, Eshmel, tasked with preventing the destruction of Dagda. The four initial heroes serve as an introduction, and Eshmel's quest presents a critical choice: to face the threat alone or bring the earlier heroes forward in time with the aid of the goddess Fortuna's powers.
The presentation also showcased the Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Dagdan Collection, a special edition that includes a SteelBook case, character art cards, a map of Dagda, and an artbook. Additionally, Nintendo announced that select tracks from the game, including the main theme, will be added to Nintendo Music, and the Nintendo Today app will receive a Fire Emblem theme.
