Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, slated for release on the Nintendo Switch 2, will introduce firearms as a new weapon option for players. This unexpected addition was highlighted during a recent Nintendo Direct presentation that offered an in-depth look at the game's mechanics.
While swords, spears, axes, bows, and magic are familiar to longtime fans of the series, guns represent a significant departure. Footage from the presentation showed a character named Anatolia utilizing a weapon that appears to be a pistol. This firearm, identified as the "Salamander," was shown to defeat an opponent with a single energy blast. Typically, gauntlet-type weapons in Fire Emblem games enhance evasion and deal moderate damage, but this new iteration reimagines the concept with firearms.
It remains unclear if the Salamander is the sole firearm available in the game or if more will be discoverable. The inclusion of guns is noted as a humorous and intriguing development for the series.
Beyond weaponry, the direct also revealed the addition of elephants as a mountable unit. Players will be able to have their heroes ride on various creatures, including dragons, winged horses, birds, and now elephants, through a new advanced class called the Elephant Rider.
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is scheduled to launch exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17. The Nintendo Direct presentation provided further details about the game beyond these notable additions.
