Marvel Studios has unveiled the first full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, coinciding with the release of tickets for the highly anticipated film. The trailer offers a glimpse of familiar faces, including Thor and Steve Rogers, and introduces Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom, albeit masked and heard speaking with a Latverian accent.
The trailer opens at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, with Doctor Doom providing narration. "Something's coming," he states, "something we may not be able to deter. Before this day is done, we shall be faced with an unthinkable decision." Professor X, portrayed by Patrick Stewart, is depicted blinded by an apparent incursion—the collision of two universes—with Doctor Doom also seen plotting a course of action.
A shift to Avengers Tower reveals Thor addressing the impending threat. "I've fought with many warriors in my time," Thor says. "They were far stronger than all of us put together, and they died. They died facing enemies and threats that scared me far less than this one. Everything that they sacrificed will be for nothing if we do not stand together. Put aside your petty squabbles and presume nothing except this: if you return, you will return as brothers and sisters. But mark my words, we're going to need a miracle."
The trailer showcases Thor, the four members of The Fantastic Four, an astonished Ant-Man, Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier), and Sam Wilson (Captain America). It also features The Thunderbolts, presumably in their first team-up. A scene depicts Namor and Letitia Wright's Shuri, the current Black Panther, on the verge of conflict in Namor's throne room, with The Fantastic Four and The Thunderbolts present, suggesting the heroes may be seeking Namor's aid against Doctor Doom.
Further sequences include a battle at Xavier's School with Cyclops ready for action, and a fight between Gambit and Shang-Chi. Loki is shown with a concerned expression, and Mystique clashes with Yelena Belova. Many heroes appear to be bidding farewell to loved ones, with Professor X and Magneto seemingly facing their end. Ant-Man shares a moment with his daughter, Cassie Lang, while Human Torch embraces his sister, Susan Storm, as an incursion looms.
Susan Storm is then seen saying goodbye to Shuri as a massive wave approaches, potentially orchestrated by Namor. The scene suggests Susan Storm might be left to confront the wave and Namor while Shuri escapes, possibly after an item crucial to the fight against Doom was taken from Namor.
The trailer culminates with Thor's attempt to strike Doctor Doom with Stormbreaker, only for Doom to effortlessly halt the weapon with two fingers, demonstrating overwhelming power. As Thor acknowledges the need for a miracle, Steve Rogers, played again by Chris Evans, appears, much to Thor's disbelief. Rogers proves his identity by summoning Mjolnir.
The trailer leaves several questions unanswered. Doctor Doom's initial dialogue hints at his complex role: is he a villain or an unlikely hero? The return of a young Steve Rogers also sparks various theories. The trailer may also be indicating the demise of the Fox X-Men, potentially paving the way for Marvel's rebooted X-Men franchise. Additionally, the apparent resemblance between Doctor Doom and Tony Stark raises further intrigue.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026. The official synopsis reads: "Universes collide and the Multiverse Saga begins its final chapter in Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday. Beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and ultimately face an existential threat unlike anything they've ever encountered. This epic film will lay the foundation for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
