Lucasfilm unveiled the debut trailer for Star Wars: Starfighter at the recent D23 fan event. The trailer offers a first glimpse at the film's protagonist, Kade Auberon, played by Ryan Gosling, who discovers a child playing with his decommissioned starfighter.
During the presentation, director Shawn Levy presented Gosling with a new jacket featuring Kade Auberon's character symbol. Levy emphasized that Starfighter is a standalone film, existing outside of the prequel and sequel timelines. He described it as a new adventure set in a previously unexplored period following the events of The Rise of Skywalker, and confirmed it would not feature any legacy characters.
The brief trailer showcases Kade flying his starfighter across various alien landscapes. The scene depicted in the trailer also includes droids firing on Kade's ship, with his own droid assisting in his escape.
Star Wars: Starfighter is slated for release on May 28, 2027. The film features an ensemble cast including Amy Adams, Aaron Pierre, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, and Flynn Gray.
