The Nintendo Switch 2 has enjoyed a strong start, amassing an impressive library of games in its first year and a half. This includes enhanced editions of many of the original Switch's best titles, such as Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Kirby and the Forgotten Land. With more such editions anticipated, like the upcoming Pikmin 4 — Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy, there remain several beloved Switch games that would significantly benefit from a similar treatment.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Following the release of the Switch 2's Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, an upgraded Three Houses feels like a natural next step. The 2019 title was a high point for the series and one of the Switch’s most acclaimed RPGs. A visual and performance boost would align it with Fortune’s Weave, but the real draw would be bundling all Expansion Pass content, including the Cindered Shadows DLC. Additional alternate costumes for characters like Seteth, who appears in both games, could serve as a welcome bonus.
Super Mario Odyssey
If a new 3D Mario game is still some time away, a Switch 2 enhanced version of Super Mario Odyssey seems likely, given Nintendo's tendency to re-release its most popular titles. While the game already holds up well visually, a bundle featuring an add-on game, similar to Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, would be highly desirable. The compact Bowser’s Fury was an underrated gem, and a new game of similar scale could serve as an excellent appetizer for Mario’s next full 3D adventure.
Super Mario Maker 2
It is surprising that Super Mario Maker 2 has not yet received a Switch 2 edition, especially considering its potential with the new hardware. The prospect of creating levels with mouse controls is particularly appealing, as the game's design lends itself perfectly to such an input method. Nintendo could also enhance the package by incorporating a modern version of Mario Paint to create a comprehensive creative suite. Furthermore, adding a Super Mario Bros. Wonder theme for levels would be a welcome addition.
Luigi’s Mansion 3
Luigi’s Mansion 3, a standout title from the Switch's library, deserves greater recognition. An enhanced Switch 2 edition could elevate its profile. Achieving a smooth 60 frames per second would allow developer Next Level Games’ intricate animations to truly shine. The game also offers opportunities for additional content, such as new multiplayer levels, minigames designed for mouse controls, or dedicated DLC.
Game Builder Garage
Game Builder Garage is a prime candidate for an upgrade due to its current incompatibility with the Switch 2, stemming from its reliance on original Joy-Cons. Nintendo should address this for preservation, but adding mouse controls would be a significant enhancement. This charming game development tool, released in 2021, has the potential to be an even more effective educational resource with a more tactile interface, fully realizing its original vision.
