Football Manager 2027 will be available for players to try for free for five days prior to its official release. This limited-time trial, beginning October 29th at 6 PM GMT and concluding on November 3rd, will feature all game modes and is described by developer Sports Interactive as an "industry first" for this type of game.
The free play period precedes the game's 'launch preview' phase, which commences on November 3rd for those who pre-order. The full release is scheduled for November 10th.
This initiative represents a significant move for the Football Manager series. "Making an annual title free to play with all game modes available is believed to be an industry first and is a move that continues Sports Interactive's efforts to support its community of players," a studio press release stated.
Players who participate in the free trial will find that their progress carries over into the full game, a feature that will also extend to those playing via Xbox Game Pass. Pre-orders for Football Manager 2027 will open concurrently with the start of the free play period, offering a 10 percent discount and access to the aforementioned launch preview.
This pre-launch event comes after a challenging period for the franchise, particularly with Football Manager 2026, which garnered a 'Mostly Negative' user score on Steam despite consistent player numbers. FM26 followed Sports Interactive's decision to cancel the release of FM25 as the studio transitioned the game to the Unity engine. This move introduced new systems, such as distinct in- and out-of-possession formations, but resulted in the temporary removal of numerous classic features and a revamped user interface that proved difficult for many players to navigate.
Football Manager 2027 aims to address these concerns, promising an "improved interface with more intuitive navigation, creating a more immersive experience." New features like Tactical Tweaks are also planned to supplement the returning touchline shouts system. The success of these additions is expected to be crucial for rebuilding player trust, and the generous five-day free trial suggests the developer is confident in the upcoming installment.
