Football Manager 27 Offers Free Play Period to Address Fan Concerns

In an effort to regain player trust following a poorly received predecessor, Sega and Sports Interactive have announced that Football Manager 27 will be available for free play on PC and Mac. This move comes after Football Manager 26 faced significant criticism from fans, who described it as buggy and unpolished, a sentiment amplified by the fact that the series had skipped a year for FM26's development.

The free early-access preview for Football Manager 27 begins on October 29 and will conclude on November 3, leading up to the game's official release on November 10. During this period, players can download and experience the full game without any restrictions. The developers clarified that this free preview, replacing the traditional Beta or Advanced Access, is intended to be closer to the final product in quality than previous early builds. Importantly, any progress made during the free play period can be carried over into the paid Launch Preview and the full game.

Sports Interactive directly addressed the common complaints leveled against Football Manager 26, which currently holds mostly negative reviews on Steam. The studio promises that Football Manager 27 will feature a significantly improved experience, including a clearer interface, an enhanced match engine, and new layers of control for training and touchline management.

Players can also take advantage of a 10 percent pre-order discount on FM27 during the free preview period. For those on Steam, the ability to continue playing seamlessly after the free preview ends on November 3 is guaranteed, allowing them to transition directly into the full launch.

This unconventional approach appears to be a strategic decision to win back disgruntled fans. By allowing players who felt let down by the previous installment to test FM27 without financial commitment, the studio aims to demonstrate confidence in the new game and assure players that this year's entry offers a worthwhile experience.
