Former NFL coach Mike Tomlin has embarked on a new career path as a Minecraft YouTuber, sharing his passion for the sandbox game with the world. In his first YouTube video, Tomlin confessed to spending 12 years meticulously building a city within Minecraft, a project that began as a way to connect with his children.
Tomlin explained that his interest in Minecraft was sparked over a decade ago when his children became engrossed in the game. "I got interested because I just was mesmerized by what could occupy their attention for such large periods of time," he stated. While he found himself lacking the "stick control" for Minecraft's Survival mode, he discovered a passion for building in Creative Mode, drawn to its architectural possibilities.
"I like to build," Tomlin said. "I've always had an interest in architecture, and so forth, so I started doing this creative city. It was a means of spending time with them. All my kids have buildings." Even as his children's interest waned with age, Tomlin continued to develop his city, finding the process therapeutic.
The video showcases an impressive level of detail in his creations, including a hotel with fully realized interiors featuring labeled rooms, a lobby, a ballroom, and a pool. Tomlin drew inspiration from real-world architecture and places he visited, recreating elements of off-campus housing near universities based on his memories.
Tomlin stepped down as the Pittsburgh Steelers' head coach in January 2026, after a 19-season tenure that included a Super Bowl XLIII victory. His recent foray into Minecraft content creation has generated significant buzz online, with many expressing surprise and admiration for his dedication and skill.
Content creators and fans alike have reacted to Tomlin's unexpected hobby. "I'm obsessed why is he genuinely a better builder than me," remarked content creator @Krtzyy. Another user on X/Twitter expressed, "Mike Tomlin becoming a Minecraft YouTuber was not on my bingo card for 2026." Memes and reactions humorously juxtapose his former coaching career with his new creative endeavor.
Tomlin has promised to share more of his Minecraft city in future videos, teasing a reveal of something he believes viewers will find interesting. He joins other notable figures who have recently gained attention for their gaming activities, including actors Inde Navarrette and Samara Weaving.
