Fortnite has launched a new in-game experience based on Focus Features' upcoming historical drama, The Uprising, starring Andrew Garfield. The custom UEFN (Unreal Editor for Fortnite) experience, developed by Sawhorse Productions and published by Genesis Studios, allows players to reenact the Peasants' Revolt of 1381 ahead of the film's theatrical debut on September 10.
This collaboration marks an unusual pairing for Fortnite, a game known for its crossovers with major pop culture franchises including Star Wars, Marvel, and LEGO. The Uprising focuses on the historical events of 1381 England, with characters like Wat Tyler and John Ball leading a rebellion against the crown. Andrew Garfield's character, Ploughman, is depicted as an ordinary peasant driven to revolt.
The new Fortnite experience immerses players in a large-scale multiplayer battle. It features a 5v5 payload-escort mode where Rebel forces attempt to push a battering ram through four distinct map phases, progressing from farmland to the city walls of London. The opposing Kingsmen must halt their advance before the time limit expires. Players can utilize era-inspired melee weapons and bows, earning in-game currency to upgrade their health, speed, and damage.
The experience concludes with cinematic endings that vary based on the outcome of the match, offering players a glimpse into the film's narrative. These endings provide different story conclusions depending on whether the Rebels succeed or the Kingsmen defend the kingdom.
This addition continues Fortnite's trend of integrating diverse cultural and entertainment properties into its platform, blending historical drama with its signature interactive gameplay. Information regarding other recent Fortnite updates, including a viral gaming chair incident and a new Star Wars skin requiring a Disneyland visit, was also noted.
