Fortnite's upcoming Chapter 7 Season 4, themed 'Override,' is set to launch on Thursday, August 20, with its battle pass lineup drawing attention for its singular gaming collaboration: Sonic the Hedgehog. Official announcements via Fortnite's Twitter account and promotional materials suggest that, contrary to the season trailer's broader array of gaming crossovers, only Sonic and associated characters like Dr. Robotnik and Shadow the Hedgehog will be direct battle pass inclusions from the gaming sphere. This limited approach to gaming collaborations within the battle pass is unusual for Epic Games. The current season, Chapter 7 Season 3, featured a surprise Simpsons crossover that was revealed later. In a similar vein, Epic previously held back details for a secret John Wick skin, a Simpsons-fied version of the character, until the latter half of the current season. While it remains possible that further collaborations could be revealed during Chapter 7 Season 4, perhaps coinciding with the in-season Fortnitemares event, the initial presentation marks a departure from previous seasons. For comparison, a Star Wars mini-season in 2025 included three Star Wars character skins in its battle pass. The key art for Chapter 7 Season 4 also prominently displays teases for characters such as Crash Bandicoot, Mega Man, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, Joker from Persona, a Roblox game's deer mascot, Pac-Man, and Spyro the Dragon. While characters like Spyro and Pac-Man are often depicted as sidekicks, their inclusion in the pass is not definitively ruled out. The season's pass does, however, offer notable original characters. Wrixel, a customizable block-style character reminiscent of those found in Minecraft or Roblox, can be adapted to resemble various Fortnite characters, including Jonesy. Mali, presented as a fighting game character with a pixelated aesthetic akin to Virtua Fighter, is another standout original addition to the Chapter 7 Season 4 battle pass.
