Fortnite has officially confirmed its long-anticipated collaboration with Kingdom Hearts, with teases indicating the arrival of at least four character skins. A short trailer released on Fortnite's social media channels showcased Sora, the main protagonist of the Kingdom Hearts series, wielding the iconic keyblade.
Accompanying text teasers from developer Epic Games suggest that three additional Kingdom Hearts characters will join Sora: Riku, Kairi, and Roxas. This crossover marks Kingdom Hearts' entry into Fortnite's current "Override" season, which has already featured collaborations with other gaming franchises such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, and Mega Man.
The "Override" season has reportedly been met with a mixed reception from players compared to its predecessor, "Runners." Player numbers have seen a slight decrease from their summer peak, and there is division among the player base regarding the Sprites mechanic, introduced in this season.
Looking ahead, Fortnite is preparing for its annual Halloween event, Fortnitemares, which is scheduled for next month. Hints of a Five Nights at Freddy's tie-in have been observed in the current battle royale island. Furthermore, rumors suggest a month-long mini-season in November may feature content from One Piece.
In related news, Square Enix is developing Kingdom Hearts 4 for PC and consoles, with a release expected next year.
