Fortnite OG Season 9 is now live, ushering in a science fiction-themed revamp of the popular battle royale experience. This season, which is scheduled to run until September 2, revisits the creative highlights of Chapter 1, offering a blend of nostalgic elements and new twists.
The new OG Pass includes updated versions of two fan-favorite skins from the original Season 9 Battle Pass: Rox and Demi. Additionally, a spectral remix of The Devourer, a kaiju integral to the season's storyline, has been added. While The Devourer was originally an item shop addition, its inclusion in the OG Pass acknowledges its significant role in the narrative. The absence of The Singularity from the pass, despite her recent presence as an NPC, suggests she may appear in the item shop later.
Fortnite OG Season 9's narrative echoes the original Season 9's storyline, which revolved around the aftermath of the Great Unvaulting and a volcanic eruption. The melting of Polar Peak revealed it to be a colossal, frozen kaiju known as The Devourer. As the beast threatened to destroy the island, players rallied behind the Mecha Team Leader in a massive battle. This climactic live event, titled "The Final Showdown," is set to return in Fortnite OG Season 9, with the potential for new developments.
The map also sees significant futuristic alterations. Tilted Towers has been reimagined as New Tilted, and Retail Row has been transformed into Mega Mall. These renovations introduce wind tunnels across the island, enabling players to launch into the air and traverse the map more rapidly. This feature makes Season 9 the most conducive to Zero Build gameplay within the Fortnite OG seasons.
The initial loot pool for Fortnite OG Season 9 features a mix of returning and absent weapons. The Pump Shotgun, Scoped Revolver, Hunting Rifle, Compact SMG, and Suppressed and Thermal ARs have been vaulted. In their place, Epic Games has unvaulted grenades and introduced the Combat Shotgun, designed for mid-range engagements. Throughout the season, players can expect the arrival of the Tactical Assault Rifle, Burst SMG, Drum Shotgun, and the widely anticipated Chug Splashes. The Storm Flip item, which can create temporary safe zones or mini-storms, will also become available midway through the season.
