Fortnite's upcoming season, titled "Override," is set to heavily feature collaborations with iconic video game franchises. Beginning August 20, the season's new map and battle pass will be centered around a wide array of gaming crossovers.

The most prominent inclusion is Sonic the Hedgehog, who will be available as a playable skin. Elements from his signature Green Hill Zone will also be integrated into the game's map, with trailer footage depicting the character Jonesy traversing a familiar gravity-defying loop at high speed.

Beyond Sonic, the "Override" season will bring characters from Mega Man, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, and Persona 5, including its protagonist, Joker. Giant Tetris blocks are also shown falling from the sky. Further key art has revealed the potential inclusion of Pac-Man and Sora from Kingdom Hearts.

Characters who have previously appeared as skins in Fortnite, such as Master Chief, Geralt, Ryu, and Lara Croft, are also expected to return to the battle shop.

Gameplay mechanics will also be influenced by these crossovers. A new backpack-based power-up system is teased, where items associated with characters like Sonic or Tails could grant players abilities such as increased speed or flight. Weapons like Mega Man's arm cannon and an "8-bit shotgun" that appears to track player scores have also been shown.

The season's narrative appears to be building towards an encounter with Geno, a significant villain within Fortnite's lore, who is anticipated to be a boss battle for players.

Fortnite "Override" will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android platforms.
