Forza Horizon 6's previously anticipated PlayStation 5 launch window has reportedly been scrubbed, with the racing title now unlikely to arrive on Sony's console in 2026. This information comes from Tom Warren, a senior reporter at The Verge, who stated on X/Twitter that he no longer expects the port to arrive before the end of next year. IGN also understands this information to be accurate.
As of this report, Xbox has not formally announced any changes to its plans regarding the PS5 release of Forza Horizon 6. IGN has reached out to Xbox for comment.
Recent months have indicated a shift in Xbox's strategy, with a noticeable pullback from some of its multiplatform efforts. Logos for the PS5 and Switch 2 have been absent from some recent Xbox game trailers, a change from earlier in the year when Xbox boss Asha Sharma referred to their omission as a "miss." Furthermore, reports emerged that Xbox had removed a trailer for Halo: Campaign Evolved from Sony's June PlayStation State of Play broadcast at the last minute. Additionally, both Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution have now been confirmed as permanent Xbox console exclusives.
Sharma had previously stated that the company would honor the multiplatform launches of any titles already announced, including Forza Horizon 6 and the recently released Halo: Campaign Evolved. However, no specific timelines were provided for when these ports would arrive, nor how they would be prioritized or promoted.
While there is no indication that Forza Horizon 6's PS5 port has been canceled entirely, a delay would align with Xbox's recent strategic pivot. This shift appears to re-emphasize promoting its own consoles as the primary platform for its games, with a significant focus for the remainder of this year on the October release of Gears of War: E-Day. The launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 in November is also a significant factor. Few games are likely to schedule releases around what is expected to be one of the best-selling games of the console generation, and its November launch is heavily tied to Sony and the PS5 through marketing deals. Even a highly anticipated title like Forza Horizon 6 might benefit from avoiding such a crowded release window.
When Forza Horizon 6 eventually launches on PS5, fans can anticipate a highly acclaimed experience. IGN's review of Forza Horizon 6 awarded it a perfect 10/10, describing it as "The new standard in open-world racing is here, and it’s a gundamn masterpiece."
