Rumors suggesting a delay for the PlayStation 5 version of Forza Horizon 6 have been officially refuted by developer Playground Games. The studio confirmed that the open-world driving game will still launch on Sony's console this year, though a specific release date or window has not been provided.
The confirmation appeared in a blog post detailing the latest updates for Forza Horizon 6. A paragraph near the end of the post stated, "If you're planning your trip to Discover Japan on PlayStation 5, stay tuned! Forza Horizon 6 will be releasing on PS5 later this year, and you can add the game to your wishlist on the PlayStation Store to be notified of availability."
The clarification comes a week after reports of a quiet delay began circulating. Players had begun to speculate about a potential slip from its initially anticipated 2026 release, particularly given the developer's recent silence on the matter. Forza Horizon 6 was first revealed at last year's Tokyo Game Show, and a potential announcement of its PS5 release date at the upcoming TGS 2026, scheduled for September 17-21, is now anticipated.
Since its release in May, Forza Horizon 6 has achieved significant commercial success. The game has sold millions of copies and remains one of the most actively played titles on PC and Xbox. It has been estimated to be Steam's highest-grossing new release of 2026, reportedly earning Valve approximately $210.5 million. Given the strong performance of Forza Horizon 5 on the PlayStation platform, expectations are high for Forza Horizon 6's success on PS5.
In a review, Eurogamer's Dom Peppiatt described Forza Horizon 6 as the best entry in the series to date, building upon its 14-year history and fulfilling the franchise's original ambitions.
