FromSoftware has officially delayed its upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods, to 2027. The developer announced the shift on Thursday, confirming earlier rumors about the game's release date. Originally slated for a 2026 launch, the delay is intended to allow for additional adjustments to the game's mechanics.
In a statement, FromSoftware explained the decision: "Regarding the software The Duskbloods for the Nintendo Switch 2, we have decided to allocate a period for final adjustments to the game rules and balance. This is in order to realize the concept of this title—enjoyable not only through direct combat but also through various maneuvers and diverse strategies—at an even higher level, based on the evaluations received from all users during the network test held in August, and to deliver an even better gaming experience. As a result, we will be changing the release date to 2027. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this will cause to those of you who have been eagerly awaiting the game, and we kindly ask for your understanding."
The Duskbloods represents a new direction for FromSoftware, emphasizing PvPvE gameplay. Players take on the role of Bloodsworn, engaging in online matches against both monsters and other players in a bid for survival. Unlike the studio's previous titles such as Dark Souls and Elden Ring, The Duskbloods focuses on a match-based multiplayer format where eight players compete to earn victory points, known as Virtue, with multiple potential paths to victory.
Game director Hidetaka Miyazaki has expressed hope that the game's design will lead to "unexpected drama." The studio recently conducted a network test for the title, which appears to have informed the decision to refine the game's rules and balance further before its eventual release.
