FromSoftware Shuts Down Dark Souls 2 and 3 Multiplayer Indefinitely Due to Server Issues

FromSoftware has temporarily disabled multiplayer functionalities, including invasions, co-op, and messages, for Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 across all platforms. The developer announced the shutdown on X, citing an unspecified "server issue" and stating that the multiplayer services would remain offline for an indeterminate period. FromSoftware indicated that more information regarding the timeline for server restoration would be provided once available. This marks the second significant multiplayer outage for the Dark Souls series on PC. In early 2022, a critical remote code execution vulnerability discovered shortly before the release of Elden Ring led to the prolonged shutdown of PC servers for all Dark Souls titles. The current situation differs as it affects both Dark Souls 2 and 3 on all platforms, suggesting the issue may be less severe and potentially quicker to resolve than the previous exploit. Fortunately for PC players, this outage coincides with the availability of community-driven solutions like the Seamless Co-op mod for Dark Souls 2, which operates on independent servers and allows players to experience the game's entirety with friends without the usual interruptions. Dark Souls 3 also has established Seamless Co-op mods. These mods provide a more integrated cooperative experience with shared progression and fewer disconnections, even when official servers are unavailable.
