PlaySide Studios has announced a delay for its upcoming real-time strategy game, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros. The title, originally slated for a 2026 release, is now expected in early 2027.
In an official blog post, the studio cited the need for additional development time to meet its quality targets. "We remain unwavering in our mission to deliver a real-time strategy game set in the world of Westeros that meets the expectations of both RTS players and Game of Thrones fans," PlaySide stated. The studio also expressed gratitude for the patience and continued support of its player base.
The development update also provided insights into the game's progress, mentioning plans for skirmishes across various regions within the Seven Kingdoms. Specifically, King's Landing, The Wall, and Ashemark were highlighted, with a note that Robb Stark's campaign will feature the Battle of the Five Armies in these locations.
This delay places Game of Thrones: War for Westeros alongside several other major titles that have also seen their release windows shifted. This trend is occurring amid a particularly crowded holiday release schedule, further complicated by the anticipated impact of Grand Theft Auto 6's launch in November 2026.
