Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, the real-time strategy game in development at PlaySide, has been delayed to early 2027. The studio announced the revised release window in a recent development update, stating that while progress is being made, additional time is needed to achieve the desired level of quality for their rendition of the Seven Kingdoms.
The game was previously slated for a 2026 launch. Developers have expressed an unwavering commitment to delivering an RTS that satisfies both genre fans and Game of Thrones enthusiasts.
PlaySide shared brief gameplay clips showcasing iconic heroes such as Jon Snow and Tywin Lannister using powerful abilities to bolster their troops. These hero units appear to be integral to victory, offering significant advantages to regular forces. The footage also offered glimpses of unit combat, highlighting the impact of cavalry charges and giants against opposing squads, and the necessity of employing effective counters.
Details were also provided regarding Ashemark, a map set in the Westerlands. This location, tied to the conflict between Stark and Lannister forces during the War of the Five Kings, is designed as a focused 1v1 battlefield. Ashemark features two open lanes with defensive positions, intended to facilitate strategic pressure, flanking maneuvers, and counterattacks. PlaySide noted that the map's visual design aims for a grounded feel within the Westeros setting while maintaining clear readability for army movement and combat.
The studio has indicated that further news and updates will be shared in the coming weeks, with more significant reveals anticipated later this year.
