The upcoming real-time strategy game, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, has received its first significant gameplay reveal and an updated release window of early 2027. Developer PlaySide Studios confirmed the new timeframe, noting that the push from 2026 is intended to ensure a high level of quality for the title.
A playable beta is also planned before the game's full release, with more details expected later this year. The reveal trailer, shown during Gamescom Opening Night Live, featured prominent characters from the HBO series such as Jon Snow, Jaime Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, and notably, the Night King, who is depicted on the Iron Throne.
Players will be able to command various factions in Westeros, deploying custom units in real-time skirmish battles. The game will include heroes like Robb Stark and Tywin Lannister, alongside unique army units including giants, dragons, and elephants. The presence of Ghost and Grey Wind, the direwolves of Jon Snow and Robb Stark respectively, was also highlighted.
PlaySide Studios stated that the extended development time is crucial for delivering an authentic real-time strategy experience within the Game of Thrones universe that satisfies both genre fans and series enthusiasts. The studio expressed gratitude for the continued patience and support of the community.
