PlaySide has released the first gameplay trailer for its upcoming Game of Thrones real-time strategy title, War for Westeros. The trailer offers a look at the game's strategic battles and confirms several characters from the popular series will be playable.
War for Westeros promises "ruthless free-for-all battles where trust is fleeting and power is everything." Players will engage in real-time strategy, with options to "forge strategic alliances, or weave deceit against your rivals." The game centers on the fight for the Iron Throne, allowing players to command either House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, or the White Walkers.
The trailer revealed that familiar faces such as Robb Stark, Jon Snow, Ghost, Grey Wind, Jaime Lannister, Tywin Lannister, Daenerys Targaryen, and the Night King will be featured as playable characters, each possessing unique abilities.
"Forging a path to victory will require players to step into the role of a commander, making key decisions in training units, securing resources, constructing buildings, and claiming territory from opposing forces," according to the official description. Each faction is designed with asymmetric strategies, featuring distinct armies, buildings, mechanics, and playstyles that reflect their identity within the Game of Thrones universe. Players will need to utilize these strengths, deploy powerful heroes, and adapt their tactics to defeat opponents.
Originally slated for release this year, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros experienced a delay to ensure a high level of quality. The game is now scheduled to launch on Steam in early next year. Details regarding an upcoming beta test are expected to be revealed at a later date.
