PlaySide Studios has announced a delay for its upcoming real-time strategy game, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, pushing its release to early 2027. The studio cited the need for additional development time to meet its quality standards as the primary reason for the postponement from its original 2026 target.
In a development update, PlaySide Studios stated that the delay "gives us the time needed to continue building towards that goal and ensure that the game reaches the high level of quality we are aiming for." The studio emphasized its commitment to delivering a real-time strategy experience set in the Game of Thrones universe that will satisfy both RTS enthusiasts and fans of the franchise.
Game of Thrones: War for Westeros allows players to command one of four factions: House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen, or the Night King’s Army of the Dead, all vying for control of the Iron Throne. Each faction will feature iconic heroes who can influence battles, with the ability to level up, unlock new abilities, and strengthen surrounding armies. Effective management of these heroes is presented as crucial for success in combat.
The development team has stated that the game will feature a strong emphasis on responsiveness, unit behavior, and physical impact, aiming to create a visceral battlefield experience. Significant development effort is being dedicated to the feedback and impact of unit interactions. The game was initially announced in June 2025.
