Years after its cancellation, gameplay footage has surfaced online for Star Wars: Magellan, an action RPG that was in development at the now-defunct Echtra Games.
The footage, shared by a former developer on the project, showcases various playable characters, including a Jedi and a Mandalorian, engaged in combat against numerous enemies. The gameplay appears to feature a loot-centric design, with defeated foes dropping equipment of differing rarities. Each character in the clips demonstrates distinct skill sets and a selection of available weaponry.
Reports indicate that Star Wars: Magellan would have also incorporated an "NPC Bond" system, designed to allow players to cultivate deeper relationships with story-driven characters. The game was originally slated for release on PC and contemporary consoles such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Echtra Games, the studio behind Magellan, was acquired by Zynga in 2021. A new action RPG began development that same year, but details remained scarce. In June 2025, Zynga announced the closure of Echtra Games, stating it was part of a strategic realignment of the company's resources and priorities. The studio's closure resulted in an end to development on future titles and a reduction in staff.
Echtra Games previously released Torchlight 3, a title that, despite a troubled launch, was recognized for its underlying heart. The emergence of this unreleased Star Wars game footage offers a bittersweet look at the developers' work prior to the studio's shutdown.
