Gamescom 2026 has concluded, and the Game Informer editorial team has compiled a comprehensive roundup of the games they previewed. From anticipated sequels and expansions to fresh indie titles, the convention offered a diverse showcase of upcoming releases.

Control Resonant

Remedy Entertainment's Control Resonant, a departure for the studio with its focus on melee action combat and RPG elements, was previewed via a hands-off demonstration. Players will step into the shoes of Dylan Faden, Jesse Faden's brother, who is freed from FBC containment along with the Hiss. The preview showcased a Manhattan park environment corrupted by a blue mold, featuring new mold-based enemies and the game's bosses, known as Resonants. Remedy confirmed that while the first and last bosses are fixed, all other Resonants can be tackled in any order. Combat mechanics highlighted include the transforming Aberrant weapon with dual blades and a drill transformation for Falter damage, a stagger meter that enables executions, and shoulder button abilities like Ignite for fire damage and Barrage for Falter damage. Notably, the game eschews traditional blocking and parrying in favor of aggressive dodging, with healing only possible through defeating enemies. Dialogue choices will influence NPC perception, though the game features a single ending. The demo culminated in a boss fight against "The Collective," a massive mold entity requiring players to use gravity shifts to attack its tentacles before damaging the creature itself. Control Resonant is slated for a digital release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on September 24, with physical versions and a Mac release to follow.

The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past

CD Projekt Red is expanding The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with a new DLC, "Songs of the Past." This expansion brings Geralt back to Dandelion's hometown of Lettenhove to investigate a mysterious death in the bard's family. The DLC will benefit from quality-of-life upgrades from the upcoming Remastered Edition, including updated combat and a new chain weapon. The expansion promises to deliver the investigation, preparation, and chilling fantasy narrative that fans have come to expect from the sprawling RPG.
