Gamescom 2026 officially kicked off with its Opening Night Live showcase, hosted by Geoff Keighley. The event, which began at 7pm BST on August 25th, provided a two-hour presentation packed with news and reveals from the gaming world.

A significant highlight of the evening was the first in-depth look at The Witcher 3's upcoming expansion, "Songs of the Past." While details remain scarce, this presentation offered clarity on the expansion's setting and the new gameplay features players can anticipate.

Other notable appearances included footage of "Warlock," a third-person action game based on Dungeons & Dragons, which has only been seen in a CGI teaser until now. The showcase also provided a look at "Revelation," the third and final installment in the Final Fantasy 7 remake series. Speculation also swirled around potential glimpses of a new "Alien: Isolation 2" game and Guild Wars 3 from ArenaNet.

Beyond major game reveals, Opening Night Live also featured updates on release dates for several titles. "The Duskbloods" remains on track for its 2026 release, and information was provided regarding the Zelda Ocarina of Time remake, although a major Nintendo announcement of that scale was not widely expected at this third-party-focused event.
