Veteran actor Gary Oldman has suggested that Amazon has finalized its choice for the next actor to portray James Bond. Speaking to Canada's The Morning Show while promoting the sixth season of Apple TV+'s "Slow Horses," Oldman indicated that his co-star, 36-year-old Jack Lowden, is in contention for the iconic role.
"Jack… it’s been rumored that he’s on the shortlist, or he’s one of… we’re gonna find out pretty soon, aren’t we?" Oldman stated. "Because they have picked him. They have made their choice. But they have not announced it yet. So, my fingers are crossed for Jack."
While Oldman's comments could be interpreted as him simply backing a colleague he believes is a strong candidate, he conveyed a sense of conviction that a decision has indeed been made, with an announcement anticipated soon. Reports from June indicated that Amazon had narrowed down its list of potential actors for the 007 role, with a second round of auditions scheduled for August. At that time, actors like Harris Dickinson, Callum Turner, and Jacob Elordi were reportedly considered to fit the desired "prototype" for the next Bond.
Amazon was reportedly aiming to make an announcement by the end of the current year, with production for the next installment slated to commence in 2027. The release date for Bond 26 has not yet been confirmed, but it is presumed to be in 2028.
