Gears of War: E-Day Hit by DDoS Attacks During Launch Weekend

The Coalition, developers of Gears of War: E-Day, have confirmed that distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks were responsible for intermittent disconnects and login issues experienced by players over the game's launch weekend. The attacks targeted the game's online services, causing disruptions shortly after its release on October 6th.

In a statement posted on October 12th, the studio acknowledged the issues, stating, "Our teams are continuing to monitor and mitigate this activity. We’ll provide updates if there are any significant changes. Thank you for your patience and understanding."

The timing of the attacks, during the crucial initial period following the game's launch, is particularly unfortunate, as it potentially impacted early player engagement and momentum. While the game's reception is still being evaluated, external reviews from other publications have begun to surface, with Dom Peppiatt of Eurogamer and Tom Orry of Respec offering their perspectives.

This incident occurs amidst a period of significant activity for Microsoft, the parent company of The Coalition. Xbox is currently undergoing extensive layoffs, impacting multiple studios. Additionally, Microsoft faces a boycott movement by BDS due to reported ties to the Israeli military.
