Microsoft has announced a limited-edition Xbox wireless controller for the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day. The new peripheral draws inspiration from the game's Emergence Day setting, featuring a design reminiscent of cracked asphalt and the iconic Crimson Omen.
The controller sports laser-etched illustrations, blacked-out ABXY buttons, a transparent red X button, and matching red triggers. A transparent D-pad and a metallic COG tag on the battery door add further thematic elements. This special edition controller is priced at $90 and is available for preorder now.
Beyond its unique aesthetic, the controller is based on the standard Xbox wireless controller model introduced in November 2020. This design is compatible with Xbox Series X|S, PC, smartphones, and tablets, offering strong battery life and ergonomic comfort for extended play sessions. It will be available through local retailers and directly from the Microsoft Store.
In addition to the controller, 8BitDo will release an official charging dock designed with the same Gears of War battlefield aesthetic. This dock is compatible with both Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One controllers and includes an 8BitDo rechargeable battery pack with magnetic alignment for convenient drop-and-charge functionality.
Fans also have the option to customize their own controllers through the Xbox Design Lab, which has been updated with an Emergence Day-themed skin. A separate custom controller option features exclusive artwork by heavy metal illustrator Luke Preece. This design showcases a skull atop crossed Lancers surrounded by more skulls. Preece, known for his work with heavy metal bands, previously illustrated the vinyl release for the Gears 5 soundtrack.
Customers can choose Preece's illustration as an option for a Design Labs Xbox controller starting September 30. Gears of War: E-Day is set to launch for Xbox Series X|S and PC on October 6. An open beta for the game is scheduled to run from August 13 to August 17.
