A new mod for Gears of War: E-Day, titled "Incursion," allows players to customize their characters with skins inspired by other popular franchises, including Halo, Warhammer 40,000, and Star Wars. The mod, developed by Tom Whaley, also includes additional in-universe Gears skins.
The Incursion mod integrates a skin selector directly into the game's main menu and pause menu, simplifying the process of changing character appearances. This eliminates the need for multi-mod setups or manual file swapping, which were often required for similar customization previously. To use the mod, players must have a copy of Gears of War: E-Day installed, and installation instructions can be found on Nexus Mods.
This fan-driven customization arrives at a time when unofficial sales estimates for Gears of War: E-Day suggest a slower-than-expected launch. Analyst Rhys Elliott reported that the game sold approximately 230,000 copies in its first week, with speculation that the Xbox Game Pass subscription service may have impacted sales figures. These numbers have not been officially confirmed by Microsoft.
In related news, the studio head at The Coalition recently addressed concerns about potential layoffs and the development timeline for future Gears titles. They assured that the next installment would not take as long to create. It was also noted that core features such as 'meat shields' were absent from Gears of War: E-Day at launch, a decision attributed to the game being built from the ground up without relying on previous titles as a foundation.
