During a recent My Chemical Romance concert at Wembley Stadium, frontman Gerard Way took a moment between songs to address a fan-made sign inquiring about his experience with Baldur's Gate 3. Way revealed that while he had played the original Baldur's Gate and its Icewind Dale expansion, he had not yet played the latest installment.
When asked by a fan if he had played Baldur's Gate 3, Way responded, "No, I only played Baldur's Gate 1." He added that he did play the Icewind Dale expansion but "just ran out of time." He then turned the question to the crowd, asking, "Did you play Baldur's Gate 3? Is it good?" which was met with enthusiastic cheers.
Way noted that the first Baldur's Gate was "the closest thing at the time to playing D&D," a hobby he is known to enjoy. This connection to Dungeons & Dragons is even referenced in the opening of My Chemical Romance's music video for "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)," where Way's character is told, "You like D&D, Audrey Hepburn, Fangoria, Harry Houdini, and croquet."
While Baldur's Gate 3 has achieved widespread critical and commercial success, developer Larian Studios has since shifted its focus to its own Divinity series. Although there have been discussions about a potential Baldur's Gate 4, it is reported that other development studios have declined to take on the project due to the high expectations set by Larian's work.
