Ghost of Yōtei Developer Sucker Punch Hit With Layoffs

Sucker Punch, the studio behind the Ghost of Yōtei series, alongside titles like Ghost of Tsushima, Infamous, and Sly Cooper, has reportedly undergone staff reductions. According to a report from Aftermath, 26 positions have been eliminated as the developer shifts focus to its next project.

Aftermath cites a former Sucker Punch employee who confirmed the number of affected roles and states the outlet obtained a company email detailing the layoffs. A section of this internal communication indicates the decision was made after "carefully observing the challenges in the market and reviewing the team needs for our next project."

The studio has stated it will support affected staff through their transition and plans to share further details regarding its next steps in the coming week. Sucker Punch has not yet issued a public statement on the matter.

This news follows the recent release of the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition, which launched earlier this year to critical and commercial acclaim. The Complete Edition coincided with the release of two major DLCs for the game: the story expansion Echoes of Sekigahara and a roguelike mode titled Most Wanted, which features Jin Sakai, the protagonist from Ghost of Tsushima, as a playable character.
