Ubisoft is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series by rolling out a significant update for Ghost Recon Wildlands and offering a free copy of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. The festivities are kicking off early, with Wildlands receiving visual and gameplay enhancements alongside an all-new mission.
The update for Wildlands, available on PC and current-generation consoles, introduces "smoother combat, improved distance rendering, enhanced lighting and shadows, and a sharper image targeting 4K resolution." A new standalone mission, titled "Last Rites," tasks players with hunting down the leader of a cult called Los Pentitentes in a perilous region of Bolivia.
While Ghost Recon Breakpoint, the successor to Wildlands, is not receiving a similar graphical overhaul, players of that title will get a free 25th-anniversary bundle in September. Breakpoint launched in a rough state and was poorly received, though it has seen significant improvements since its release. Ubisoft appears to have prioritized updating the more favorably remembered Wildlands.
In addition to the Wildlands update, Ubisoft is offering further incentives for players to engage with the franchise. Both Wildlands and Breakpoint are available to play for free during a special weekend event on Ubisoft Connect. Furthermore, Steam is offering both titles at a 95% discount, making Wildlands $2.49 and Breakpoint $3. For fans looking to experience an earlier entry, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is available for free until August 13.
Ubisoft has also launched the Ghost Recon Insiders Program, inviting fans to contribute to the development of future Ghost Recon titles. Sign-ups are available on the official Ghost Recon website.
