Sony has detailed the Collector's Box for the upcoming God of War Laufey, revealing that the £129.99 package will not include a copy of the game itself.
The Collector's Box, also priced at $149.99 and €149.99, is set to release on February 16, 2027, coinciding with the launch of God of War Laufey on PlayStation 5. Pre-orders are available now in limited quantities directly from PlayStation.
Instead of the game, the box contains several collectible items. Headlining the contents is an eight-inch statue depicting Faye and Phranque battling soldiers. This statue features a light-up element for Phranque, activated via a USB power source. The set also includes a 51-card Oracle Deck, featuring custom illustrations by Megan Lara, described as a representation of the game's journey through the Everywhen. A mini artbook showcasing concept art of characters, creatures, and environments, selected by the development team at Santa Monica Studio, completes the package.
This approach of releasing collector's editions without the core game is not unprecedented. Rockstar's recently announced GTA 6 Collector's Box, priced at £349.99, is also a merchandise-only offering. Similarly, Bungie has previously offered Destiny 2 collector's editions that did not include the associated expansion codes.
In related news, The Last of Us director Bruce Straley recently apologized to the God of War Laufey team after comments he made about being "not excited" about the game's gameplay were taken out of context. Straley clarified that his remarks were used for clickbait and that he intended to convey his thoughts on the broader trends in triple-A game development.
