Santa Monica Studio has shared new details regarding combat mechanics and pre-order incentives for God of War Laufey. The game, which puts players in control of Kratos' wife, Faye, as she navigates the afterlife known as the Everywhen, is set to launch in February.
Central to the new combat information is the addition of the Serpent's Bow to Faye's arsenal, complementing her existing swordplay. This mythical bow offers a ranged attack option, allowing players to maintain distance from enemies. Its rapid firing capability enables seamless integration of arrow shots into melee combos, with demonstrations showing Faye capable of launching enemies into the air before peppering them with quick arrows. Holding the fire button allows for charged precision shots aimed at enemy weak points, which can disrupt their movement and attacks. These charged shots can also allow Faye to fire up to five arrows simultaneously. The game will feature various arrow types, including rapid-fire, explosive, and multi-targeting options. Furthermore, the Serpent Bow can be customized with different scales that modify its appearance and effectiveness.
Pre-orders for God of War Laufey are scheduled to begin on September 29. Standard pre-order bonuses include the Last Wish Armor Set, the Phranque Golden Leaves Appearance cosmetic, and an in-game resource pack. Items marked with an asterisk are unlockable through in-game story progression.
In addition to the standard edition, a Digital Deluxe Edition will be available, though its price has not yet been disclosed. This version includes the Dark Alchemy Armor Set, Dark Alchemy Blade, Dark Alchemy Bow Scales, Dark Alchemy Catalyst, an In-Game Resource Pack, a Digital Mini Artbook, and the Official God of War Laufey Digital Soundtrack. All Dark Alchemy items are also designated as unlockable via story progression.
God of War Laufey is scheduled for release on February 16 for the PlayStation 5.
