Santa Monica Studio has revealed new gameplay for <i>God of War Laufey</i>, showcasing a combat style that draws heavily from earlier <i>God of War</i> entries and the action game <i>Devil May Cry</i>. The latest footage features the protagonist, Faye, executing a series of aerial attacks, including double jumps, kicks, and sword slashes, before utilizing her new weapon, the Serpent Bow.
The Serpent Bow is described as a weapon that can be fired with extreme speed, allowing players to keep enemies suspended in the air for extended combos. Holding the trigger allows for precise aiming at specific enemy body parts, increasing projectile range, while a partial press enables a rapid hip-fire stance for close-quarters combat and combo continuation. The bow can be customized with various arrow types, such as rapid fire, explosive, and multi-target options, and can be equipped with different Scales that alter its appearance and provide unique perks.
In addition to the Serpent Bow, Faye's other weapons, including her sword and Catalyst artifacts, can also be customized to enable different magical abilities.
Santa Monica Studio also announced pre-order details for <i>God of War Laufey</i>, which is set to release on February 16, 2027. Pre-orders will commence on September 29 at 10 a.m. local time. The base edition includes the Last Wish armor set, a cosmetic for the cube companion Phranque, and an in-game resource pack. The digital deluxe edition offers a full Dark Alchemy loadout, featuring armor, a blade, bow, and Catalyst, along with a digital mini artbook and the game's soundtrack.
<i>God of War Laufey</i> centers on Faye, a frost giant warrior from Midgard, Kratos's wife, and Atreus's mother. The game follows her journey in the afterlife as she battles other deceased gods and seeks a way to escape to save her family from a dire fate.
