Deborah Ann Woll, the actor behind Faye in the upcoming God of War Laufey, has shared her perspective on the online hostility directed at the game. The game has faced a significant backlash, largely due to it featuring Faye, Kratos's late wife, as the protagonist, a departure from the series' tradition of starring Kratos. Previous entries established Faye as a formidable warrior, making her lead role a point of anticipation for many.
Appearing at Florida Supercon, Woll addressed concerns about the negativity. When a fan expressed support and advised her to ignore misogynistic comments, Woll revealed she is largely unaffected. "Genuinely, I thought I was going to be much more affected by it, but one, I’m not on social media so that helps, and two, I don’t know, I feel totally unbothered because I just know it’s great," she stated. Woll emphasized that while the game may not appeal to everyone, its quality is undeniable. "Like, it’s okay if it’s just not your cup of tea, but in no universe is it bad."
God of War Laufey is slated for release on PlayStation 5. While a specific launch date has not been announced, Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that the game will include a physical disc version, suggesting a release prior to 2028, when PlayStation is expected to phase out physical disc support. The game's premise centers on Faye's journey through the afterlife, a concept that has been met with both enthusiasm and criticism online.
