God Packs Are Coming to Magic: The Gathering

Wizards of the Coast is introducing 'God Packs' to Magic: The Gathering, a rare booster pack variant that will feature only rare and mythic cards. This initiative aims to enhance the excitement of opening booster packs, especially for Collector Boosters.

Both Play Boosters and Collector Boosters will have a chance to be a God Pack. The probability stands at approximately 1 in 1,000 Play Boosters and 1 in 300 Collector Boosters. Collector Boosters are naturally more likely to yield these highly desirable packs.

The contents of God Packs will differ based on the booster type. For Play Boosters, a God Pack will include one special 'God Pack celebration card,' ten non-foil rares and mythics, two non-foil 'Booster Fun' variants, and two foil 'Booster Fun' cards. Collector Booster God Packs will contain one foil land, three default-frame foil rares and/or mythics, three non-foil 'Booster Fun' variants, and five foil 'Booster Fun' variants.

Alongside the introduction of God Packs, Wizards is increasing the drop rates for foil rare and mythic rare cards across all booster packs. However, these changes will also involve the removal of certain cards. Foil commons and uncommons will be removed from Play Boosters, and Collector Boosters will be trimmed down to 12 cards by removing three foil common and uncommon slots.

Wizards acknowledges that removing cards may not inherently make opening Collector Boosters more exciting but states that the intention is to make room for cards that players are more enthusiastic about. The company noted that a significant portion of players tend to skip over commons and uncommons when opening Collector Boosters, as evidenced by many opening videos.

These new booster configurations will be implemented starting with the Naicu: The Sunken Realm set. Universes Beyond sets will adopt these changes beginning in 2028.
