Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered is set to launch on November 3, a date that places it in proximity to the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 release later that month. However, developers at Pipeworks, the studio behind the remaster, have stated that Rockstar's upcoming blockbuster was not a consideration when selecting the release date. The team prioritized honoring the original film's release date, November 3, 1954, which is recognized as 'Godzilla Day' by IP owner Toho.
Senior designer Simon Strange explained that the team was not concerned about potential competition from GTA 6. "Honestly, wasn't even in our heads at all when we were picking the release date," Strange told IGN. "It was never part of our thinking. I wasn't looking at that calendar and being worried in any way, or thinking about what other games are coming out because the Godzilla fans are very excited for it. They'd buy it on any day that it came out, and putting it on Godzilla's birthday, that's just respectful."
Atari, the publisher, acknowledged awareness of the proximity to GTA 6's launch but felt the gap was sufficient. A spokesperson noted that while they were "certainly aware of the proximity" to GTA 6, the November 12 release date for another Atari title, Barbie Rewind, alongside Godzilla's November 3 launch, made sense within their release calendar. The publisher believes the distinct appeal of both Godzilla and Barbie Rewind will allow them to attract their own audiences. Atari also highlighted the fan-created memes surrounding the release date proximity as a positive development.
Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee Remastered is scheduled to release on PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on November 3. A PC demo for the game is slated for release on October 15. Barbie Rewind is set to follow on November 12 for PC, Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
