Godzilla Minus Zero Trailer Hints at Gidorah's Return

A new trailer for the upcoming film Godzilla Minus Zero has been released, continuing to tease a monstrous threat beyond Godzilla himself. The trailer arrives less than a day after the movie's panel at New York Comic Con.

The footage opens with a doctor commenting that Noriko "had no business surviving" the events of Godzilla Minus One. It then shows Koichi navigating a supernatural storm that lifts entire houses into the air, followed by scenes of civilians fleeing and discussing their fear of an impending disaster, all capped by a massive atomic breath attack from Godzilla.

However, the trailer description and visual cues hint that Godzilla may not be the only antagonist. While Godzilla's signature atomic breath is depicted with a blue hue, similar to its appearance in Godzilla Minus One, other destructive beams shown in the trailer possess a more yellow or lightning-like quality. These alternate beams are seen attacking civilians and destroying a bomb.

A Familiar Foe

Those seeking to avoid spoilers should stop reading here. Comments from filmmakers at New York Comic Con and Polygon's review confirm that Gidorah will play a significant role in Godzilla Minus Zero. The three-headed monster, first introduced in 1964, is one of the Godzilla franchise's most recognizable characters and has frequently battled Godzilla throughout the series.

Gidorah was last seen in the 2019 American film Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The prospect of Japanese filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki reinterpreting the character within the post-World War II setting of his series is a compelling one for fans. Godzilla Minus Zero is scheduled to premiere in theaters on November 6.
