Toho has released a new trailer for its upcoming film, Godzilla Minus Zero, offering a glimpse of King Ghidorah's gravity beams and Godzilla's signature atomic breath. The sneak peek debuted at New York Comic Con 2026.
The trailer focuses on the conflict between Godzilla and the three-headed kaiju, King Ghidorah, with footage showing Ghidorah firing its lightning-like gravity beams at airborne structures. While the new design for Ghidorah remains unrevealed, the trailer teases the destructive capabilities of the creatures.
Questions regarding how Noriko Oishi (Minami Hamabe) survived Godzilla's initial attack are also raised, suggesting a significant focus on the human element's response to the kaiju threat. The film's producers have indicated that the sequel will explore the idea of fighting fire with fire.
Production Insights
Producers and VFX artists from Godzilla Minus Zero participated in a panel at NYCC, discussing the film's production. Visual effects artist Tatsuji Nojima, a recipient of an Oscar for his work on the previous film, Godzilla Minus One, spoke about the director's approach to working with emerging talent. Producer Kazuaki Kishida noted that the Minus Zero team includes even younger artists, some in their early twenties, who are entrusted with managing entire scenes. This collaborative environment, free from age-based hierarchy, is seen as beneficial for fostering fresh perspectives.
The film's status as the first Japanese production filmed for IMAX presented unique challenges. The team creatively developed soundscapes for the monsters, with Godzilla's roar in Minus One being recorded in a baseball stadium. For Minus Zero, they experimented with recording sounds in a dam, incorporating ambient noises and even the reactions of a dog on a walk.
Godzilla Minus Zero is set to premiere on November 6, with an IMAX early access screening on November 3. The film follows the critically acclaimed Godzilla Minus One, which received an 8/10 from IGN.
