GOG has announced that Westwood's 2000 action RPG, NOX, is the latest game to be inducted into its Preservation Program. This initiative commits GOG to maintaining the game's support and ensuring its continued ease of play for the foreseeable future.
The selection was made through a patron poll, where NOX emerged as the clear winner. Out of nearly 10,000 total votes cast for potential inductees including Lands of Lore 1 + 2, Might and Magic 7: For Blood and Honor, Silver, and Albion, NOX secured 3,068 votes, with Might and Magic following in second place with 2,239 votes.
While GOG has not detailed the specific enhancements for NOX, previous Preservation Program entries suggest a commitment beyond basic functionality. The program's previous inductee, Thief, received significant work from GOG, resulting in an improved and well-supported version of the classic game. It is anticipated that NOX will undergo similar treatment.
This marks the second game to enter the Preservation Program via this voting method, following Thief. The initiative aims to keep older PC titles accessible and playable on modern systems.
Coinciding with the announcement, NOX is currently available at a discounted price on GOG for $1.39. This sale is scheduled to last for another 15 hours from the time of reporting. Players who already own the game will benefit from GOG's preservation efforts without additional cost.
