Development studio Alkimia Interactive has announced several new features and content for THQ Nordic's Gothic remake. These additions include a Photo Mode, an official mod kit, and a mysterious "alternative progression systems." The studio also revealed plans for a "Marvin Mode," which they describe as the Gothic equivalent of a developer mode that allows players to spawn creatures or items and teleport across the map.
The "Marvin Mode" is a nod to a debug feature from the original Gothic game, reportedly named after Marvin the Paranoid Android from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In the original, this mode could be deactivated by entering the number "42."
The addition of a photo mode may seem unusual given the game's setting within a prison quarry populated by hostile characters and creatures. However, the remake has been praised for retaining the original's distinctive landscape and naturalistic environmental design, now enhanced with detailed graphics that accentuate the world without being distracting.
These updates were revealed during a THQ Nordic publisher showcase. While a specific timeline for their release has not been provided, they are expected to arrive after smaller patches that address bugs and refine existing features. During the same showcase, Alkimia Interactive also hinted at their next game, which is slated for a formal announcement at next year's showcase. "This adventure is far from over, so stay with us!" the developers stated, fueling speculation that a Gothic 2 remake could be their next project. Developers expressed a desire for their future titles to "modernize and improve while still bringing that distinct and contrary design into an era preoccupied with the safe, infinite, frictionless paste of Content," echoing sentiments from a review of the Gothic 1 Remake.
