Grand Theft Auto 6 Install Size Set to Exceed 200 GB on PS5

Clear some space on your hard drives: Grand Theft Auto 6 is poised to be the largest game in the franchise to date. According to information compiled by PlayStation Game Size, the title will demand over 200 GB of storage space on PlayStation 5 at its November launch.

This substantial install size reflects the expansive world and detailed environments players can expect in Grand Theft Auto 6, which will feature a modern-day Vice City and its surrounding areas. While specific details on the storage requirements for the Xbox Series X and Series S versions have not yet been released, the PlayStation 5 figure suggests a considerable download for all platforms.

Storage Comparison to Previous Titles

Compared to its predecessors, Grand Theft Auto 6's projected install size is a dramatic increase. Grand Theft Auto 5, for instance, requires 95 GB on PlayStation 4 and 100 GB on PlayStation 5. The PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5 Enhanced needs 105 GB. Earlier entries in the series had much smaller footprints: Grand Theft Auto 4: The Complete Edition on PC requires only 22 GB, while the original Grand Theft Auto for Windows takes up a mere 652 MB.

Even with its large size, Grand Theft Auto 6 is not the biggest game on the market. Some recent titles, such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, have demanded over 300 GB of storage. The Call of Duty franchise is known for its significant storage requirements, often due to continuous content updates.

Players will have an opportunity to prepare for the massive download, as preloads for Grand Theft Auto 6 are scheduled to begin on November 12. The game is set to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on November 19.
