Grand Theft Auto 6 Physical Editions Will Not Contain a Disc, Rockstar Confirms

Rockstar Games has confirmed that physical editions of the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 will not include a game disc. Instead, purchasers will find a box containing a digital download code. This approach follows a growing trend in the industry where physical media is being phased out for digital distribution.

Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 are set to begin, with both digital and physical purchasing options available. Physical copies are slated to be available starting November 12, ahead of the game's official launch on November 19. This earlier date also marks the beginning of pre-loading for the game, allowing players who opt for either physical or digital versions to download the title in advance.

The decision to release a disc-less physical edition for such a major title is noteworthy, especially considering Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to be one of the biggest releases of the current console generation. However, the shift away from physical media is not unprecedented, as other major publishers, including Nintendo, have also reduced the inclusion of discs in their releases for certain titles.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, featuring a single-player experience. The game's Ultimate Edition will offer exclusive vehicles, weapons, outfits, and additional content not present in the base version, positioning it as a premium option for dedicated fans. Copies purchased before November 20 will include a Vintage Vice City Pack, featuring additional cosmetic items and vehicles, though this bonus is only guaranteed while supplies last for physical editions. Digital pre-orders will also come with a complimentary month of GTA+.
