Grand Theft Auto 6's immense detail and complexity have reportedly led to situations even its developers have not encountered during testing. A recent two-hour preview of the game, shared by Italian influencer MikeShowSha, revealed details about the game's intricate NPC systems and dynamic world events.
Among the new mechanics detailed is the handling of stolen money, which must be laundered. Car crashes are also described as completely dynamic, and evading a six-star Wanted level proved exceptionally challenging due to aggressive police AI. However, a particularly noteworthy aspect highlighted was the prevalence of random events. MikeShowSha recounted witnessing an event that the entire development team claimed they had not encountered during extensive testing.
This incident involved two women in ski masks during a jewelry store robbery gone awry. The player could choose to intervene, complete the robbery themselves, or disengage from the situation entirely. This level of emergent gameplay lends credence to earlier rumors that Rockstar recorded an extraordinary number of NPC dialogue lines, intended to ensure a player could spend considerable time in the game without encountering repetitive dialogue or events.
The preview also suggested a high level of polish and attention to detail. In one instance, a Rockstar representative reportedly requested a fix because the co-protagonist, Jason, did not thank an NPC for delivering a car, an action the NPC completed by riding away on an electric scooter. MikeShowSha also stated they did not encounter any bugs during their playtime, indicating that Rockstar is actively refining the game.
These intricate details contribute to the vast scale of Grand Theft Auto 6's world, which is reportedly many times larger than that of Red Dead Redemption 2. The game's non-playable characters are said to be individually crafted with numerous dialogue options, potential events, and extensive animations, contributing to a projected main story length of 80 hours even without significant optional content.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X on November 19.
